Professional Librarian

Windowing Displays

	The results of searches, as well as category and roll listings, appear in scrolling windows.
	Windows can display either one line per item (20 items per screen) or the entire description (unlimited length) of each item.
	This allows you to quickly scan a list and expand for more detail when necessary.
	Automatically sorts items by source roll.
	Allows you to easily revise and edit any description shown in the window.
	Enables "cut and paste" functions to copy items from the search window to custom select lists, which can be printed or saved.

Powerful Search Functions

	Simply type a description of the sound or music you want to find. Use a single word, such as "dogs," or several words, such as "1957 Chevy Nomad passby at 45 MPH."
	The words you type to define a search are automatically translated into their synonyms by Professional Librarian's dictionary. This helps find similar sounds described with different words. For example, one person's AMBIENCE might be another person's BACKGROUND or ATMOSPHERE. When you search for an AMBIENCE, Professional Librarian also searches for its equivalents. The dictionary included with Professional Librarian contains thousands of words, synonyms, and equivalents. You can easily modify the dictionary as well.
	Sometimes even the most carefully described search finds too many irrelevant items. That's why you have a broad variety of refinement options to filter out the unwanted items. Only interested in items on CD? Need items at least 30 seconds long? No problem. You can even use additional words to further refine the current search without performing the search all over again. Professional Librarian will sort or refine windows by format, length, medium, roll name, recordist, composer, and user field.
	You can define exactly how your search words are interpreted by using AND, OR, ALSO & NOT to specify exceptions, alternative and additional meanings. "Fires Not Trucks" finds all items with "Fires" unless they contain "Trucks."
	You can create special files, called Lists, for holding selected items. For example, you can scroll through a window and tag (manually select) specific items. A single command gathers them together at the top of the window for easier comparison. Then copy and paste, via the clipboard, to any number of Lists files.
	When you define a search with multiple words, Professional Librarian automatically cross-references the results into a single list. All search windows appears automatically sorted by source roll.
	While Professional Librarian searches your library, it displays hits, misses, matches.
	Enables you to divide your library, like a public library, into categories.

	Auto-assign function adds new items automatically; just create categories where you want the information to be assigned and Professional Librarian will assign items automatically.
	Simply type the category name and Professional Librarian displays any items assigned to it almost instantly, even for the most specific categories.
	If an item meets the criteria of more than one category, Professional Librarian will put it in several categories at once. And if you change an item description anywhere in the database, all categories that have the same item will also change automatically.
	Provides separate dictionary and category systems for music and sound effects libraries. The category systems provided are very comprehensive and well organized.

Interactive Category Display

	Provides a category window that displays a scrolling list of category names. You can easily arrange the category names in any order you prefer.
	Organize categories into families; group families into groups of sub-categories displayed on an indented level; easily view the overall structure of your category system or expand all levels of a particular family to see maximum detail. Easily rearrange the list, moving families with one command.
	Scroll the highlight cursor bar through the list of category names and press the "+" or "-" keys to display sub-categories. This allows you to scroll quickly through the list and expand for detail only where you need more information.

Special Entry Screens for Tapes, CDs, DATs & Carts

	Professional Librarian provides separate data entry screens for analog tapes, digital tapes, compact discs, and broadcast carts. Each screen is tailored to a specific medium, usually including specific fields for information relevant only to that particular recording medium. This helps make data entry easier and faster.
	Automatically "tracks" copies made from one format to another, such as when creating samples from compact discs. This feature cross references master/copy relationships between samples, DATs, etc. The information displayed when searching will indicate if an item has been copied or if the item is itself a copy.
	Professional Librarian provides pop-up reference lists when you enter information into the database. These reference lists are available at.most fields and greatly enhance the speed and accuracy of data entry.
	Each field can automatically default to a preset value, a value based on the previous entry, or nothing at all. These customizable defaults can significantly reduce redundant, unnecessary typing and can speed up tedious data entry.
