Spots & Lines
You can enter an unlimited number of dialogue lines into the Spot List. Each line of dialogue corresponds to a single Spot and can be cross-referenced by Character, Scene, Reel, Start/Stop Footage (or timecode), Loop Number, Loop Type and Rating (difficulty).
Footages & Timecodes
Spotmaker gives you the ability to enter character and dialogue information without footages. This allows you to begin the data entry process from a rough cut and add footages when the picture is locked. You can also begin programming without Loop Numbers and add them later; in fact, Spotmaker can automatically number loops in sequential order. Loop numbers can be a combination of letters and numbers.
By using the Timecode Reader Card option, you can capture timecode values from a video tape instead of typing. Spotmaker converts timecode to 35mm feet/frames and vice versa. This means you can enter the times in whatever form is most convenient and convert before printing.
Scenes & Reels
As in Sound Supervisor, scene and reel information can be displayed in a Continuity window, an onscreen or printed version of the traditional film continuity. The Continuity window displays the structure of the project: listed by reel, scenes show their numbers, descriptions and lengths.
You can add, split, move, and omit scenes. Omitted scenes can be restored at a later date. Each reel can have a separate version date.
Spot Window
Spotmaker displays the spots in a Spot window, which shows all information about each spot. There are many different ways to change the order of spots. You can Sort by reeL footage,. scene, character and loop number.
Refining the Spot window selectively removes spots based on specific criteria. For example, you could refine the window to see only spots by one particular character in Reel Two.
Line Tally
The Line Tally shows the number of lines each character must record, sorted by reel. The" Line Tally can also factor in the difficulty rating of each line.. Since the tally function does not require footages, you can get detailed and accurate assessments of actor s time requirements and other scheduling factors early in the preparation process. The Line Tally can also be printed
Printouts
Spotmaker will create printouts of the spots displayed in the Spot window. In other words, any sorting, refining or tagging (tagging is a means of manually selecting spots) determines the spots included in the printouts. For example, if you are about to record an actor, simply refine the window for the actor s character and print the Recording Cue Sheets.
Recording Cue Sheets resemble the traditional ADR forms supplied by the studio, showing start/stop footages, dialogue lines, 4 or 6 columns for the mag recorder, etc.
Linesheets are a unique feature of Spotmaker. Similar to a printed version of the spot window, Line Sheets enable you to create printouts of any combination of lines: single characters in all reels; or a group of characters in a particular reel; or any combination of characters and scenes. Line Sheets are a convenient way to show the director what lines are to be recorded. Many editors simply give Line Sheets, sorted by character and reel, to each actor.
Notesheets contain one dialogue line per page. printed in extra large type, with room for making notes on multiple takes.
Labels of transferred lines, printed on I 5/16" X 2.5" (mailing labels) to fit on 35mm transfers.
Notepads are free-form text files that you can print or save to disk. They are ideal for keeping lists of things to do, notes from the Director. notes to the Editors and so forth.
Post-session Procedures
After the spots have been recorded, you can enter the printed take numbers for each spot. You can also command Spotmaker to "combine" spots that were combined during the recording session. You can make most forms of changes to the spot information, such as additions, ommisions, and rephrasing. Production lines can be changed to Theatrical or Television status if necessary.
The Post-session procedures enable you to print line sheets of recorded cues, which function well as a reference while editing. Or, you could print labels to use when breaking down 35mm transfers. And you can transfer the information to Leonardo's Cueprinter program (you can even indicate track & slate numbers) to automatically print re-recording cue sheets.
